Western version of the Princess Mononoke characters.
San, Lady Eboshi, Ashitaka, Yakul, and the Forest Spirit.
Here are all of the character designs done for class! The assignment was to take a story and redesign the characters, changing the time period and style. I still have some edits to make and more to do with the project even though class is over. Stay tuned :)
oh wow okay this is cool for SEVERAL reasons.
One of course is that they are GORGEOUS.
But two is that look how absolutely perfectly these fall into the categories of what would make one of those huge big budget oscar winning gritty westerns with expansive cinematography that have been on the rise in the last decade or so. And then think about how perfectly it still goes with the original Mononoke-hime. And think about just how much more success it would have seen among western audiences with only the region changed. There’s a LOT of meat to talk about in that comparison. WAY more than what I’m equipped to talk about. But wow, yes. I don’t know why I never really thought about this movie as a supernatural western before, but it totally, absolutely is.
I’d LOVE to see more of this. Especially Lady Eboshi and the other characters associated with her, wow.
